Be The Change

Black women are assigned to the bottom of the totem poll at birth. The burden is on us the second we come out of the womb. Then systematically, through societal constructs we are taught that we are not worthy, we are invisible, we have no impact, and we simply don't matter.

Of course, all of this is utter bull-shit.

This little girl's experience is so disheartening to see in 2023. For all the progress we've made and the battles we've fought for equality and inclusion, there is always a reminder to "stay in your place". That's the back of the bus.

I want that beautiful child to know that there an army of us fighting for her right to stand-up and stand-out. I want her to know she is not alone. All women, not just women of colour, are sick and tired of being excluded, made to feel undeserving, invisible and less than.

The facts show, the tide is changing. And, while change can be frightening and sometimes destabilising, time is up for status quo. Rise up sisters and strong male allies. Speak out against injustice when you see it. Silence is the choice of cowards.
