Mergers & Acquisition Are Always Unsettling for Both Stakeholders & Leaders

Mergers and acquisition are always unsettling for both stakeholders and leaders. They produce stress, uncertainty, tension and vulnerability. So when the dust settles, it's the job of good leaders to focus on creating a vision that everyone who's still in place can get behind. That means building an inclusive culture that values global stakeholders from different continents, backgrounds, leadership and communication styles.

My fellow Executive Coach, Karen Mackly, and I spent an amazing few days with Jayne Fieldhouse, Head of Marketing & Communications at Royal Bank of Canada, uniting her global team who met each other for the first time at their UK offsite. They discovered their leadership styles, their impact on others, the importance of active listening skills, signature strengths and what they bring to the table.

Most of all they discovered the importance of closing their cultural divide in order to work more productively and strategicly as a team. The British and American's speak the same language, but the way they communicate is something different. However, once the team were under the same roof, they embraced being pushed out of their comfort zones and reinvented their relationships. All that work and a lot of fun added up to the goal achieved. Now the ball is in their court to live up to their potential as a great global
